This Standard is an adoption with national modifications of the fifth edition of IEC 60335-1, Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 1: General requirements including its Corrigendum 1 (July 2010). This part is to be used in conjunction with the appropriate Part 2 of AS/NZS 60335. The Parts 2 contain clauses to supplement or modify the corresponding clauses in this part to provide the relevant requirements for each type of appliance. The national variations to the IEC 60335-1 Ed 5 form the Australian and New Zealand national variations for purposes of the IECEE scheme for recognition of results of testing to standards for safety of electrical equipment (the CB scheme).

This part 2 has to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of AS/NZS 60335.1 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 1: General requirements and its Amendments. It was established on the basis of AS/NZS 60335.1:2002. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the 2004 edition of AS/NZS 60335.2.13 are as follows (minor changes are not listed): - the scope is changed to cover household and similar use, - additional instructions are added to reflect the content of the scope (7.12). There are no national variations from the IEC Standard from which This Standard is adopted, other than those listed in Annex ZZ to AS/NZS 60335.1.
